Music: Leogun – Let’s Be Friends

If you’re going to see Bon Jovi’s summer enormo gig at Hyde Park today, make an effort to catch Leogun on the Bandstand stage. (The band are also pening for Kiss & QOTSA in August and Lynyrd Skynyrd in October.)
A three-piece from London, Leogun story really starts in 2009 when singer/guitarist Tommy Smith blagged his way backstage at an Eagles Of Death Metal gig and made a contact that introduced him to Rocket Music Management (founded by Elton John). Soon, Leogun had been signed up by Rocket and inked a record deal with Yamaha Entertainment Group.

Let’s Be Friends Is the band’s first single. The PR describes it as “a mix of blues, soul and a whole lotta rock & roll… mixes the musicality and heart bleeding emotion of The Raconteurs with all the sexual prowess and break-neck attitude of Queens of The Stone Age” but
And the name? A Leogun is apparently a mythical animal that’s half-man and half-lion. “People would say my hair looks like a lion, and we try to perform like lions up there on stage,” says Smith. “It’s all about being honest. I’m quite an excitable person so I play the guitar like my life depends on it. That’s what I hope people see. There’s no joke. Let’s play these things until our fucking fingers fall off.”
