Clapton voted greater than Page, Young, Townshend and Richards

Pole position: Clapton
Motor racing fans have decided that Eric Clapton is a greater guitarist than Jimmy Page, Angus Young, Pete Townshend and Keith Richards.
They were asked to vote in a poll ahead of the annual Silverstone Classic festival at the iconic race track in England.
Organisers asked them to choose from the five Gibson artists – and they responded by voting for Slowhand, who recently released a new album called Old Sock and is considering winding down his touring career.
Event Director Nick Wigley says: “Nearly 2000 votes were cast, and it’s clear from the results that Silverstone Classic fans are just as knowledgable about classic rock guitarists as they are about classic racing cars.”
The Silverstone event features an array of machines from down the years – but just as important are the live music performances, which this year include the Hollies plus tribute artists performing Pink Floyd, the Eagles and Guns n’Roses.
Wigley says: “It’s an amazing lineup, as well as 24 fabulous races. I’m not sure which sounds best: the roar of a Ferrari V12 or a well-known riff.”
The Silverstone Classic takes place on July 26-28. Find out more.
